Estudio Carlos Mafra de Lae was founded in November 2005 in Rio de Janeiro when Carlos Maximiliano Mafra de Laet, an attorney with more than 40 years of law practice, decided to team up with Helio Parente de Vasconcelos, Francisco de Assis Belgo and Adam Miranda Sa Sthelig. In June 2006, they expanded and opened offices in San Pablo.

The firm in Rio de Janeiro was created to provide services to clients throughout the nation, among other purposes.

The history of Carlos Mafra de Laet is closely related to the history of Estudio Gouvea Vieria, where he worked for over 40 years. It was while he was a partner of this renowned firm that Carlos Laet realized that, in a country of continental proportions, only a synergy of firms could effectively represent clients carrying out business transactions in the whole national territory. On this basis, Carlos Laet designed and formally created Alianza Gouvea Vieira. He has been and continues to be its manager and main driving force.
